Painter · Illustrator · Concept artist / Hamburg, Germany

An artist shaped by places, ideas and encounters.

Oleg Ailo is a painter, illustrator and concept artist based in Hamburg. His education in Luhansk and Saint Petersburg forms the academic foundation of a practice that now unfolds in Germany.

His work moves between the physical surface of a canvas and the possibilities of illustration. Observation, composition and visual narrative connect these practices. In the selected paintings, a restrained palette and layered brushwork allow the subject to emerge, recede and invite a closer look.

Oleg Ailo — Hamburg, Germany

Three cities. One evolving visual language.

01

The foundation

Luhansk

Fine-art studies at the Matusovsky Academy of Culture and Arts: drawing, composition and the discipline of looking.

02

The wider perspective

Saint Petersburg

Studies in art theory and art history at the Repin Academy of Arts widened the conversation between an image, its meaning and its place in culture.

03

The ongoing dialogue

Hamburg

Now based in Hamburg, Oleg brings those foundations into contact with a contemporary, international artistic environment.

In the paintings, the meeting of these experiences can be read in the tension between structure and freedom: recognisable figures, unstable surfaces, quiet horizons and paint that carries its own presence.
